After Godzilla 1985, this film was a marked improvement to say the least. To me, Biollante is still one of the better 'new' foes Godzilla has faced so far. The FX were very good here and both monsters were looking sharp. To say that Biollante was just a rose bush mixed with DNA from the big G itself would be slighting the poor beast. The birth of Biollante and the plot in general were both good. The battles between the two monsters were very cool and I love the end fight were Godzilla blows the big bush away. The Godzilla series really took off after this film with the new series of remakes, but this movie really began to revitalize the monster if you ask me. What's the most secure job in the world? A contractor in Tokyo I think, because you'll never run out of work with Godzilla running loose. This film proved that giant monsters can still be fun even in the late 80's. My favorite Godzilla film ever came a few years later and I think this movie helped lay the groundwork for what fans really wanted... a meaner monster!
