A couple, Michael and Madeline Matheson (Jordan Ladd of THE SPECIALS), who have been trying desperately to have a child finally conceive. Much to the dismay of her domineering mother in-law Madeline chooses to have a midwife rather than use the family physician. This midwife is Patricia Lang (Samantha Ferris of SUPERNATURAL). Unbeknownst to her husband, Madline and Patricia used to be a couple.
One night there's an emergency and she's rushed to the hospital. It turns out to be a gall stone. On the drive back home she and her husband get in a car accident. He is instantly killed and she is injured--and the baby dies. But she wants to wait weeks and naturally abort the child. There's a really awful scene of her giving birth to a dead baby. She tries to nurse it. And much to the surprise of the midwife the child starts to move and comes back to life, as if Madeline willed the child back somehow. She names her Grace.
This is when weird things start to happen. There starts being lots of flies in the baby's room, to such an extent that she covers it in fly tape and puts a screen over the crib. There's also a weird stench coming from the baby. When she gives her daughter a bath and takes her temperature, it's only 93 degrees--the same temperature as the water. Then the baby starts biting her breasts and drinking her blood. In desperation she tries to feed Grace animal blood but it doesn't work. Then, she has unexpected visitors and finds another way to feed her kid....
GRACE is an extremely grim and disturbing movie which features the best monster baby since Larry Cohen's IT'S ALIVE.
