Test pilot Hal Jordan (Voice of Christopher Meloni of LAW & ORDER: SVU) is in a flight simulator while Aben-Sur, a Green Lantern, crash lands on Earth. Dying, he calls for the power of the ring to find the one person on this planet worthy of being a Green Lantern--and it's Hal. His flight simulator is transported far out into the desert to where the alien is. Before he dies, he explains who he is and gives Hal the ring.
Before Hal can figure out all his powers a group of alien Green Lanterns abduct him and take him back to Oa, so the Guardians can officially decide if he's Green Lantern material or not. Most of the blue-skinned Guardians don't like humans but Sinestro (voice of Victor Garber of ALIAS) offers to take Hal under his wing. However, Sinestro is very unhappy with the Guardians' rules and starts taking manners into his own hands. He kills someone and Hal is framed for the murder. Because of this his ring is taken away.
Hal knows what Sinestro is up to but no one believes him at first. He thinks he has a friend in Green Lantern Boodikka (voice of Tricia Helfer of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA) but that turns out to be a disappointment. Sinestro has gained access a power as strong as that of the green energy that powers the Lanterns-- yellow energy. Then, it's a battle between him and the Green Lantern Corp as he tries to destroy their power source.
This is as good as the other recent DC animated features, such as WONDER WOMAN and SUPERMAN: DOOMSDAY. My only problem is that it's hard to believe that no one figures out right away that Sinestro is really a villain..come on, his name is Sinestro!
