First, it's GOOD! And they keep the original HALLOWEEN theme!
Rob Zombie's version of HALLOWEEN delves much more into the formation of the psychopath Michael Myers and why he goes seeking his sister Laurie Strode after he escapes from the mental institution. Sherrie Moon Zombie stands out as Michael's mother and there's a fantastic cast of genre actors such as Dee Wallace Stone, Ken Foree, Bill Moseley, Sid Haig and Brad Dourif.
It's a much more violent than the original movie and Zombie manages to make 'The Shape' scary again, which is no small feat after umpteenth sequels that have diminished him. Here Myers is a relentless killing machine. Malcolm McDowell is a good Dr. Loomis and his character is more involved in the story and tied closer with the killer.
To answer 'Do you like this better than the original'? I would have to say that I like them both equally.
With recapturing HALLOWEEN, Rob Zombie has indeed pulled it off.
