Hammer House of Horror Vol. 4 (1980)

Hammer House of Horror Vol. 4 (1980) After getting out of jail and ex-con (Brian Cox-he played Hannibal Lector in MANHUNTER and was the father in THE RING) gets a job with an eccentric pet shop owner (Peter Cushing). The owner has a zoo down in his basement, keeping tigers, panthers, bears in cages that have their doors open. What he is trying to do is train them to only leave their cages when a buzzer goes off. This off-puts the ex-con but he goes along with it because he needs the job. When the pet shop owner leaves for a few days he leaves the guy in charge-who can't resist the temptation of cracking the owner's safe. As soon as he does this the floor opens beneath him and he finds himself in a cage, exactly like the animals. It turns out that the owner is trying to come up with a method to condition prisoners so that they won't need to be locked up in prisons. The ending to this story is a bit surprising and disturbing. In CHILDREN OF THE FULL MOON a man and his wife find themselves lost in the English countryside when their car breaks down and chance upon an old mansion inhabited by a matronly woman and eight children. She invites them in and offers to let them stay overnight when they find out the tow truck can't come until the next morning. But something strange is going on. The children are spooky-appearing one minute, disappearing the next-and the woman warns the couple that the children like to prowl around at night. She tells them not to leave their bedroom. Of course, they don't listen and the man climbs down the window when they see a shape spying on them from outside. He falls down and his wife is attacked by someone, who we only see a POV from. The next thing you know, the man wakes up in the hospital and the wife tells him he was in a car accident. When he asks about the strange house and the creepy kids she explains that it was all a nightmare. He starts thinking otherwise when his wife begins eating raw meat. She is pregnant-but not with his child. In the end, she's drawn back to the house to give birth-and her husband follows, only to discover that his wife was impregnated by a werewolf and that all those children in the house are his. This was one of the better episodes of the series.
