This is one of those movies in which a lot of hoopla and hype has preceded it, even calling it a 'revisionist slasher movie'. Well, HATCHET is indeed a good enough excursion into the 'Slasher Genre', but offers absolutely nothing new to it.
A group of college students go down to Louisiana and take an ill-fated tour down the swamps where deformed Victor Crowley was supposed to have lived and died. Only he's come back swinging a hatchet and he's pissed. There are some effective, gory scenes and the makeup effects on Crowley are convincing. He makes Jason look like a pretty boy.
In addition to portrying Victor Crowley, actor Kane Hodder also portrays his father and he's quite good, dramatically, in the flashback scenes.
HATCHET isn't a bad movie but it isn't a very memorable one either.
