I enjoyed this far more than the first animated feature, SWORD OF STORMS, primarily because it deals with real monsters as opposed to Japanese mythology. The villain this time is Esbeth Bathory, a vampire thought to have been destroyed in the 1930's. The BPA group, as a favor to a Senator, is sent to investigate a 'Haunted' house he purchased in the Hamptons, which contains many of the items previously owned by Bathory. The movie goes back and forth from the present to the past, where the Professor (voice of John Hurt) battles the vampire in the 1930's.
As for chronology, I'd say this takes place before the live-action movies as the Professor is still alive.
If future animated HELLBOY movies are like this then they are on the right track.
