This is one of the most enjoyable horror movies I've seen in a long while. It's entertaining, cleverly written, decent acting an it definitely keeps your interest. The movie starts with a man picking up a hitchhiker--he offers her some water, she takes a drink and starts choking. She opens the door--manages to escape for a bit in the desert but is poisoned. It's clear that the man is the serial killer talked about on the radio. Then he starts talking about 'el diablo' and we are shown that the water she drank from was labelled 'holy water'. And he puts on his clerical collar--a priest. Is she a demon? He buries her alongside the road, where there are a bunch of other crosses, presumably from other victims. Suddenly, she appears a few moments later, half her face painted in demonic makeup--and kills him. The movie then cuts to a group of college age kids who are making their way from Pennsylvania to California--and they pull over to pick up a hitchhiker, who just happens to be this woman. From there it's kind of like a female version of THE HITCHER, as they are stalked by this demonic woman. She also kills a bunch of other people along the way. My favorite scene is when she hitches a ride with a guy (Ron Jeremy) who says he makes low budget horror movies. She asks if he makes money and he says 'No, I did business with a company named Tempe but they ripped me off.' Ha ha ha. There's plenty of gore effects, explosions and a surprising twist ending that works extremely well. Perhaps director/writer Jeff Leroy's best movie.
