This made-for-television movie is a grim accounting of the Manson family murders, primarily from the prosecuting attorney's point of view (Vincent Bugliosi--the movie was based on his book). Steve Railsback is utterly convincing as Manson, especially with those crazy eyes. The movie starts with the police investigating the aftermath of the Sharon Tate murders and how the police were going about trying to find the killer. They believed it to be drug related-and it turned out not to be the case. After enough evidence is gathered--some fingerprints, and the testimony of some of the people involved-Manson is arrested and charged with being responsible for the murders. Although Manson didn't personally murder any of the people it was him who directed his followers to do it.And his followers are some weirded-out Hippies, particularly the women, who follow his orders without question. At one point, when Manson shaves his head, all the women do as well. When several of the women who committed the murders are questioned, they admit that they feel no remorse whatsoever. I had never seen this movie before so it was interesting finding out exactly what the Manson Family was about and who was responsible for the crimes.I believe that a new movie, based on the same book, is now being made.
