I thought this was going to be another lame movie, like THE LEGEND OF HERCULES or IMMORTALS. I was so wrong. Rather than a fantasy movie we have a more realistic version of Hercules, as a man (and his group of like-minded associates) who is hired to solve problems. The key elements of the legend are true--but his cousin, Iolaus, has done a great job of embellishing the stories so that everyone believes the myths. Hercules has been banished from his home city by King Eurystheus (Joseph Fiennes) after seemingly slaying his own wife and children in a drunken stupor. But once he takes on a job to help Lord Cotys (John Hurt) to defeat invaders, things begin to piece together and he realizes that the King, once his friend, may have been his worst enemy all along. Hercules is an entertaining action movie with a great supporting cast (Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell). Dwayne Johnson is perfect in the role. Highly recommended.
