From the guys who brought us SHAUN OF THE DEAD comes a movie that has much more in common with THE SECRET OF HARVEST HOME than any action movie. But that's perfectly all right, as I love that old made-for-tv movie.
The premise is that a top policeman is relocated from London to a "quiet", virtually crime-free town a hundred miles away because he's been making everyone else in the department look bad, because of his hard work. Yet, he almost immediately begins to suspect something is up with the town, when people begin to die in horrible, unlikely accidents. In fact, he discovers that there have been many such accidents during the past twenty-years. Yes, they are murders.
HOT FUZZ is hilarious and entertaining as an action movie but also works as a horror movie in that there is a serial killer(s?) and some gruesome, computer-enhanced gory deaths. I had to rewind the scene in which a guy is killed by a fallen church spire, which crushes his head and imbeds itself in his torso, while he's still standing.
