This movie can also be seen under the titles Attack of the Swamp Creatures, Zaat, and Blood Waters of DR. Z. Whatever the title, this movie is cool. It's a must see and own for rubber suited monster fans and swamp monster movie buffs. The film opens with our mad Dr. Leopold waxing poetic about the beauty of various deadly sea creatures and how he soon will be one with them against mankind. Sure enough, he turns himself into some kind of human walking catfish that looks more like a walking seahorse with his own special brew and a nice hot bath. For here on out, it's time to rid humanity of itself. Dr. Leopold is a bit pissed at not being granted human guinea pigs for his experiments in years past and he's out for revenge and to fight for aquatic rights all over the world. Well, actually, he just wants to start his own super race of killer fish men like himself. Hydra has all your rubber monster standards: the goofy, doubtful police force, the experts called in to help that really don't seem that expert, and tons of wonderfully glaring sound FX. The creature looks cool aside from that goofy looking head and the underwater scenes are filmed and executed well. The swimming scenes reminded me of a certain creature in a dark lagoon, almost. The good Dr. participates in several bloodless murders, eats a guy, tries to make himself a mate, kidnaps some skank, and possesses the highest I.Q. of any monster in a swamp yet. He's smart enough to head to the pharmacy when he's feeling down and get some drugs. He can still manipulate scientific equipment, even with big scaly hands. The heroes seem perplexed as to how to stop the rampage. Nets won't work. They can't seem to track him. One of the experts even manages to get bit by a snake while chasing the monster. It all ends well though, as our good Dr heads for the sea in a hail of gunfire, followed by that skank he kidnapped. I guess neither of them minded that fishy smell. Maybe she enjoyed his whiskers.
