At first this seemed like just another serial killer movie, complete with the Bates-like motel out in the middle of nowhere. A group of very different people-a hooker, an actress, a limo driver, a cop, a convict, a family and a newly married couple-are all stranded at this desert motel during a torrential thunderstorm. All the roads are washed out and even their cell phones don't work. And one by one they start being murdered, with a motel room key, counting backwards from 10, being left with each one of them. There's a lot of inexplicable coincidences, particularly the fact that they all have the same birthday. And it gets weirder and weirder. Let's just say that the entire second half of the movie keeps you guessing as to what's going on, all the way to the end which has a quadruple twist ending that works. This is one of the most cleverly written horror movies I've seen.
