A science researcher by the name of Eric Norris (Richard Hatch of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA) is given a strange meteor rock from a friend, who said he found it on his property. But he also says that when he found it that it was soft and looked like some kind of jellyfish. Eric doesn't think much about this until he discovers a tumor like growth on his side. Eric's behavior has been different lately--he's been feeling more positive and happy and started dating a colleague who has been interested in him for the past half year. Previously he had been in a depressed funk about the death of his wife and child who had died in a car accident when he was driving.
He has the company doctor take x-rays and the growth appears to be some type of parasite which has imbedded itself in his organs and nervous system. The doctor tells him he'll probably die soon. But Eric's new girlfriend, also a scientist, thinks that he may be pregnant and will give birth to this creature, which is rapidly gestating. And yes, he does indeed give birth to an odd looking tentacled alien.
Eric's boss (Walter Koenig, who also produced the movie), however, has it in for him so when the government captures the creature and Eric, he's the guy in charge of this new program. The government, of course, thinks this may be a precursor to an alien invasion but Eric simply looks on the boy as his new soon.
INALIENABLE has a lot of classic sci-fi elements yet remains unpredictable. The movie starts off like something out ALIEN and becomes a courtroom drama to prove if the creature is human enough to be considered protected under the law. There are lots of Star Trek associated actors, including Marina Sirtis as a lawyer, Richard Herd (V: The Original Series) as a witness, Tim Russ as a newscaster, and Koenig's co-star from Babylon 5, Patricia Tallman, who is really wicked here. Richard Hatch also gives one of his best performances as well. Recommend.
