This is truly one of the worst remakes ever made, complete with a CGI monster baby. Yes, instead of the Rick Baker designed creature from the original we have a lame Smeegle clone.
The expectant mother is now a college student, who is quitting school in order to live with her boyfriend. Her roommate is upset with this, saying she has to come back to school to finish her thesis. In fact, we learn in the movie that the mother had taken some new type of abortion pill--but it didn't work. And this is presumably why the baby turns out how it does. Or is she being punished for trying to have an abortion?
As in the original, everyone in the operating room is killed during the delivery except for the mother. Yet this doesn't happen until twenty-minutes into the movie. Also, the baby stays with the mother, so no one suspects that it is the killer. When it's first born we see a glimpse of it and it looks deformed--but later, when we see it again it looks entirely normal. Does it morph? Of course, having the authorities not suspect the baby is a complete waste of time for the viewer because we already know the baby is the murderer.
At home, the father starts finding the remains of dead animals in the backyard--and the mother catches her son killing a bird, which is offscreen. When it starts killing people we just see the victims thrown about, as if the HULK is doing it, which isn't very believable when it's a ten pound baby. There is a gruesome shot of the roommate being killed, in which we see a computer animated baby claw dig its way through her head. But why? The ending is also very very lame, complete with a fire and the mother sacrificing herself. As I said, a complete waste of time.
