Although it's a "family friendly" movie, it's also good solid entertainment for anyone, particularly if you're a fan of movies like THE CAVE or THE DESCENT. Trevor Anderson (Brendan Fraser), who has been living in the shadow of his brother, Max, for the past ten years, follows up on his sibling's research with his nephew in tow. They go to retrieve a seismic sensor at volcano in iceland, get a beautiful blonde guide, Hannah, to lead them up there and get trapped in a cave during a lightning storm that collapses the entrance. They make their way down to an old mine--and go even deeper when the ground collapses beneath them, which plummets them down miles through a volcanic tube, to a lost world, complete with giant mushrooms, trilobites and dinosaurs. It turns out that Trevor's brother Max made it down here a decade before and that he believed that Jules Verne's novel was true--and he turns out to be right.
The 3-D is what really makes this movie and there's plenty of opportunities for stuff to come flying at you, from antennae to birds to a T-Rex head. I particularly enjoyed the mine car/roller coaster sequence. Highly recommended as the most fun movie of the 2008 Summer season.
