I put off seeing this movie for years because my impression from the trailer and the box was that it's strictly a kid's movie. What it is is a weird supernatural time travel movie with a cool plot idea, decent computer effects and plenty of unpredictability (as far as Hollywood movies go). In the midst of playing an ancient looking game that he recently found half-buried in the ground, a boy is sucked into a vortex and disappears. His girl friend, who was playing opposite him is then chased out of the house by giant african bats. Then we skip 25 years later when two new kids and their aunt move into the house-and find that same game. Once they start to play they encounter giant insects, man-eating plants and insane monkeys-and, of course, they bring back the boy who is now an adult (Robin Williams).
