In the first few minutes of this movie two people are underground, doing repairs on some electrical lines, and accidently set free some mutated rats from their lair. They are torn apart by a substantially large rodent. Next, cut to a young blonde woman (Sarah Downey), who is admitted to the private mental institution for suicidal tendencies. It turns out that she's really a reporter going undercover as a patient in order to get the scoop of what's really going on there-which turns out to be that the experimental have survived and were kept alive by a former patient whose mind they telepathically control. It's the usual rehash of SHOCK CORRIDOR, not done nearly so well. Patients start being killed by intelligent rats, which look pretty cool with these glowing red eyes. But then we see the rat's leader, which is huge-and really fake looking. In some scenes it's a cartoon generated effect, in others it's a guy in a rat suit-and the two different types of effects don't match up. I can't believe that Tibor Takacs (THE GATE) directed this. WILLARD or DEADLY EYES this ain't.
