I'm befuddled by this one. The animated movie starts off with King Kong in New York City, climbing the Empire State Building as an eclipse happens, and soon the ocean starts churning and weird spires come out of the water. Then, an island woman shaman wakes up from the nightmare. Is this a prophetic dream of the end of the world? We're quickly introduced to Jason and a friend, who are on this prehistoric island. In a brief sentence it's explained that this Kong was brought to life through Jason's grandmother's experiment with DNA-and somehow Jason's DNA got mixed up with the giant gorilla. Through a cyber-connection the two can physically merge together. When this happens KONG looks the same but has these glowing blue eyes-and is a bit smarter.Atlantis rises around the island, referred to as Kong Island, and out come these animal headed humanoids, who are the rebels. They try to get Kong on their side but accidently end up shooting arrows at him. Confused, Kong goes and joins the other side-which are the reptilian rulers of Atlantis. The queen has the creative name of Reptila-and for some reason she wants Kong crowned as King, because the original Kong was King of Atlantis thousands of years ago. Oh, and there are three or four unbearable musical numbers where the characters dance around singing. The worst is when Kong is dressed in huge clothes by these lightning bug type creatures. The old cartoon of Kong from the 60's is far more faithful to the original story than this mess is. Unbelievable!
