At the edge of the Mojave desert is the Paradise Falls diner, where Charlie (Adrianne Palicki) works as a waitress. She's eight months pregnant, the father long gone. The owner's son, Jeep, is in love with her and wants to help her raise the baby even through she doesn't return his affections. Then one day and old lady comes into the diner and tells her the "baby is going to burn" before she turns into a demon-like creature, bites the throat out of a customer and skittles up the ceiling like a crab. A customer manages to shoot her dead. Then Michael (Paul Bettany) shows up with a stolen police car filled with automatic weapons. He was an Angel. He's come to Earth and cut off his wings and explains that he's there to help keep Charlie's baby safe. He doesn't so much care if the others survive. When one of them asks if all the crazy people trying to get in are demons he says no, but that they are possessed by Angels and are here to wipe mankind off the face of the planet. God has become disillusioned with mankind he's using the possessed to kill the stronger humans. So while this battle to keep the child safe is happening in the middle of nowhere, the entire world is being attacked by these creatures.
LEGION is well written and doesn't get too hokey. Thematically, it's a lot like THE PROPHECY series. Granted, it's also a lot like a zombie movie but it's different enough to make it interesting. In fact, it makes those Angels on the tv show SUPERNATURAL seem like pantywaists. These guys mean business. This is the best horror movie so far this year (2010).
