Joseph Parda's new movie, Machines of Love and Hate, is undeniably his best. Shot in 16mm, concerns a traveler who has no recollection of his past. First seen walking from the ocean, wearing a gas mask and army fatigues, he soon encounters an old man on the road, who thinks that he's from the military. The bearded man has no idea if he is or not. Then, he's hit by a car driven by a young woman (Tina Krouse) and taken to her home. His wound isn't so serious but they offer to him a room to stay in. The father of the family is this old creepy bearded guy in a wheelchair, his wife (Elaine Daly) seems very out of it and the daughter acts much younger than she actually is, which is all somewhat unsettling. Then the man starts having nightmares where he's in the same scene after scene-and still isn't sure what's going on. Let's just say that people aren't who they seem and that a bit of body hopping is involved. And some of the revelations are quite repulsive. The ending completely took me by surprise. This movie reminded me very much of a David Lynch film, in particular LOST HIGHWAY. And it's extremely un-politically correct-I'm sure this movie will offend a lot of Catholics and Christians out there, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. For more info on this movie check out www.cinemaimages.net
