Magnum Force (1973)
Movie Review by The Mortician

Magnum Force (1973) This is the follow-up to the immortal DIRTY HARRY and one of the best sequels of all-time, in my opinion. If only all sequels were made this carefully, with such delicious detail paid to character, story, and dialogue (the one-liners just never stop in this one!). MAGNUM FORCE is just an EPIC movie with assured directing, super acting, and expertly staged intense action that still holds up today. Clint Eastwood returns as Dirty Harry, the maverick cop that does the dirty job of cleaning up San Francisco's streets his own way. Someone, possibly a traffic cop, is murdering some of the city's most notorious criminals and Harry is put on the case by his annoying boss Briggs (played to the hilt by Hal Holbrook) to find out who is behind the madness, even though Harry ain't sad to see some of these scumbags mowed down. Eastwood is perfect in the part of the intense cop that brandishes a .44 Magnum for defense and I gotta say, what a spectacular ending that so many other films and books have borrowed from, most notably SCREAM! Bet you never thought about that, did ya? Again, the story and pacing of this film are pitch perfect, always keeping your attention and the action scenes are breathtaking, particularly the car and motorcycle stunts. Some of those scenes are jaw-dropping to this day and you wonder how no one was killed performing such daredevil scenarios, especially when a crane slams through the front windshield of a car, impaling the drive, and a scene where Harry takes out a guy on a motorcycle by slamming directly into it with his car in one uncut take. The shoot-outs, the acting, and the plot twists come fast and furious, all leading to a most satisfying conclusion. Watch for a great scene with Suzanne Somers, playing a mobster's pool slut who gets a big diamond ring, pops her top and blatantly displays her jiggling awesome breasts off with glee before being shot up by a psycho! Those massive mammaries still look delicious even when all covered up in red Karo syrup! Definitely the best role Ms. Somers has ever played, I rewind and watch her scene over and over again every time I re-watch this classic film. Delicious! MAGNUM FORCE is quite simply one of the best, most entertaining movies of all time. Massively grand, brutally violent, and wickedly cool.
