I haven't seen the recent Red Dragon film, the second adaptation of the Harris novel, but I find it hard to believe that it could be better than this film. This movie builds some very cool tension, terror, and suspense! The villain here, The Tooth Fairy, makes for quite a sinister figure and the looks of this guy are fuckin' creepy. He looked like some weirdo albino basketball player and makes for the perfect serial killer looking kinda guy. I found it amusing how he was able to hook up with a blind chick and she has to make the 1st movies to get them laid! Guess only a blind woman would be able to deal with this freak. Unfortunately, he's the jealous type and shoots both her and a guy he mistakes as her other lover. She never saw it coming. We the viewers did. The guy playing Will Graham, agent out of retirement after catching Hannibal Lecter, is dead on and really brings the right feel to the role. The guy playing Lecter here is good also. Not Hopkins good, but he does a great job in his own way. He gives you that sinister, intellectual quality that we have come to expect. This films makes you wanna keep watchin' from start to finish. I guess technically it was the 1st Lecter film. Though he doesn't do much here, except try and screw over the agent that caught him by sending the killer he's now hunting after his family. Everything here works perfectly, especially watching the tortured agent fight his own demons while trying to find this killer. If you like the other Lecter films, you gotta see this one!
