James Cagney portrays the makeup master in this Hollywood biopic, opting to go the melodramatic route in depicting his growing up with deaf parents and his tumultuous personal life. I had heard so much about this movie prior to seeing it that it was somewhat of a let down. It seemed that they tried way to hard to make Chaney a sympathetic character.
