This made-for-cable movie is a reworking of the Marvel Comic's character from the 70's, which has more in common with the movie SLITHIS than it does its original material. The monster doesn't even resemble the comic book character, other than being mossy and green with red glowing eyes. And that line from the comic 'Whoever knows fear burns at the touch of the Man Thing' isn't even utilized.A new sheriff in town has to deal with the local oil company, Schist, and the local populace that opposes them polluting the local swampland. People have been murdered in a gruesome way and it's because of a vengeful Native American spirit which has taken the form of this 'MAN THING'. The human remains are found punctured by branches and vines and in a state of decomposition. The monster kills not only the bad guys but some of the good ones as well, such as the sheriff's deputy. The movie has a good look to it, all of the swamp scenes very green and foggy and the computer special effects are decent, particularly when they are used for some of the more extreme gore effects (such as a guy getting pulled apart). The story, however, is stereotypical and thus predictable. Why can't they ever get these comic adaptations right more often?
