In the 1800's a former slave (RZA, who also directed) is now the blacksmith of a small village in feudal China. It's not a quiet little town, as there is a small scale war happening amongst the local warriors as they search for a hidden treasure. A enigmatic Westerner (Russell Crowe) shows up and we're not certain if he's a good guy or a bad guy. Oh, there's also magic involved, from a horrific villain who can transform his body into metal, to the blacksmith equipping himself with robotic metal arms. While this Chinese action flick hearkens back to those films from the 70's, it's of note to horror fans because of the gratuitous gore effects provided by Howard Berger and Greg Nicotero. Recommended.
