What a mean-spirited movie! Damn. Herbert Lom portrays a witchfinder general in the 17th Century who randomly condemns people to death for witchery. At his side is a very young Udo Kier, who is in-training for this nasty job. Lots of good looking women are raped and tortured in some excruciating scenes, with limbs stretched on racks, tongues pulled out and lots of fires. When Udo falls in love with a local barmaid she's blamed as being a witch and he does nothing at first to save her. But after he sees his mentor kill another man in cold blood, a man who spouts what a fake he is, Udo frees the woman and try to get away.
