Angela Bettis, who did a great job in the tv remake of CARRIE, portrays MAY, a very troubled young woman who has a special friend. This friend is a doll her mother gave her, that's encased in a glass box. She was told never to open it so she just talks to the creepy looking toy, which is also her best friend. As an adult she works as a vet assistant and has no qualms dealing with the gory stuff. She becomes infatuated with a man she sees on her way to work (Jeremy Sisko) and ends up dating him. She tells him she loves his hands. But when things get too weird, like when she bites him and draws blood, he stops seeing her, much to her dismay. May has other friends as well, such as a lesbian is the receptionist where she works. She really likes her neck. Well, none of May's relationships work out so she decides to make a friend when all else fails. This is an extremely engaging movie, great performances, creepy undertone and some gory effects. Although the ending stole from DARK NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW it still worked.MAY is one of the best horror movies of 2003.
