It's the late 1970's. Holden Ford is a young FBI agent fascinated by serial killers, though that name hasn't been coined yet (it is later, by him). He meets fellow agent Bill Tench, whose job is to interact with the local police forces across the country, to provide information and tactics they may not have in dealing with violent crime. He and Holden hit it off and begin working together, interviewing well-known killers in jail to get a better understanding of how their minds work-and why they ended up doing what they did. This also gets the interest of Wendy Carr (Anna Torv of FRINGE), a professor/psychologist who also has an interest in these deviants. Much to the reluctance of the FBI chief, the trio form a task force and continue to study the killers, which include Edmund Kemper and Richard Speck, two completely different kind of murderers.
The show successfully captures the feel of the time period and it is fascinating watching them on their journey, which takes a psychological toll on all the characters.
MINDHUNTER is an intriguing show, sort of like RED DRAGON LITE. Highly recommended.
