Although this is a visually interesting fantasy film, it reminded me too much of a prior Jim Henson Productions movie, LABYRINTH (1986). In MIRRORMASK the protagonist is a fourteen year old girl whose mother may be dying-and she ends up in this strange alternate reality where the Shadow Queen is trying to overtake the land while the good Queen is in a coma. The Queen looks like the girl's mother. In fact, whenever she looks in a window she sees her "evil twin", who has taken over her place in her own world, the "real" world. In order to save the Queen (her mother), she has to recover a magical object, the Mirrormask. In fact, the whole story is a lot like the Stephen King/Peter Straub book THE TALISMAN crossed with WIZARD OF OZ as it would be directed by David Lynch.
