Fred Dekker's homage to the Universal Monster pantheon holds up with the test of time.
The movie begins over a hundred years ago, with Van Helsing and crew trying to prevent Dracula (Duncan Regher) from obtaining an amulet that will help him take over the world. They fail. We then skip to the present, with Dracula re-awakening on an airplane and being deposited in the US, the same place where a clubhouse of kids are. It's up to these kids, led by Sean Crenshaw, to stop Drac and the monsters from obtaining their goal.
The Stan Winston created monsters are great, particularly Tom Noon as the Frankenstein Monster and Jonathan Gries as The Wolfman. The interpretations of the Gill Man and the mummy are also cool. The creepiest monsters, however, seen only briefly towards the end of the film, are Dracula's three brides.
If you haven't seen THE MONSTER SQUAD you are in for a treat.
