I loved the first movie--it was low-key, realistic and had an interesting take on the "alien invasion" scenario. The strength was that it focused on the two main characters and what they had to go through to survive and make it to safety. This sequel is the complete opposite. It's ten-years later and the monsters are showing up all around the world. It begins in the Middle East, with a sniper---then focuses on a group of young men in Detroit who all decide to join the Army. They're deployed to the Middle East and encounter the usual insurgents and, of course, the monsters that are there. They are all different shapes and sizes and don't seem to care much about the humans fighting about them. The budget seems larger, the effects more impressive, but war movies are not my favorite and all the characters blurred together, they were so much alike. Who needs to see another movie about soldiers in the Middle East? I was bummed out I was so bored with this film!
