Corporate risk-management consultant Lee Weathers (Kate Mara of FANTASTIC FOUR) is sent to a top secret scientific base out in the country where they've created an artificial human. Although the creation, "Morgan", is only five years old she looks as if she's fifteen. She's also locked in a secure cell because she stabbed the eye out of one of the scientists. Among the scientists looking after her are Simon Ziegler (Toby Jones of WAYWARD PINES), Darren and Brenda Finch, who act like her parents, and behaviorist Amy Menser (Rose Leslie of GAME OF THRONES). At first it seems that they want to find out "what went wrong", but as the movie progresses we realize something else is up. In fact, you can pretty well guess what it is once she confronts the psychologist (Paul Giamatti at his irritating best) sent in to examine her.
This has a very similar feel and premise to last years EX MACHINA, only this time it's a synthetic biological person, not an android. Kate Mara is weirdly cast but it makes sense by the end of the movie why they did that. Recommended.
