A priest (Vincent Gallo) goes looking for his archeologist friend who has disappeared in the ancient passageways beneath a Russian church. He hires some locals to take him down and they tell him the stories of how there's supposedly a gateway to Hell down there. At first it seems as if this is the case, with some strange camera angles that look like the point-of-view of entities and there's these spooky looking kids who wander the tunnels. It turns out that these kids are the descendants of people who were trapped down there hundreds of years ago and they've adapted to the dark. And by all the bones around and the disappearance of homeless people who live beneath the city it's pretty obvious just what they eat.
It's an interesting movie but a little too subtle for its own good.
