Ahhh....another independent horror night here on the other side of the veil...the Old One's favorite place to be!
Tonight's selection was a little seen film from a few years back, "Mother's Day Massacre"...although that title could be a bit confusing...
In truth, the entire FILM was a mite confusing...now before I get into that, let me state what I WAS impressed with...
The acting, for the budget, was actually quite good...I was impressed with the cinematography, the on-location shooting, shot composition, and direction were more than adequate for a freshman outing, and the sound, lighting, and sets were well done. The special effects, while nothing that would compare to a Savini or Nicotero, were still well done, and some of the situations were very unusual...there will be at least a few "squirm" moments, especially for males in the audience.
Now...the story itself.
Out of the gate, the film leads you to believe you're watching a different movie than what you are...and it bounces around from time to place in such a way that you often are left scratching your head to try to figure out what's going on, and just what the plot IS...it could honestly go in several directions at several times...although it DOES, for the most part, all come together in the end, the story doesn't really give you a thread to pick up on, not even a red herring or two, just out and out "What the hell...?" moments.
Overall, it's not a bad watch, especially for those of us that enjoy indie horror; just respect it for what it IS, and if it's your thing, it's worth your time.
