This ten episode series from the Audience Network is one of the better Stephen King based television series I've seen. Bill Hodges (Brendan Gleeson) is a retired police detective who is now drinking himself to death, still bothered by the fact that he was unable to solve the "Mercedes Killer" crime two years before. This is when someone drove a stolen Mercedes into a group of innocent people waiting in line at a job fair. Now, it seems as if the killer has reappeared-and is taunting Hodges to do something about it. Along the way Hodges gets his purpose back in life and even manages to start a relationship and even rekindle a connection with his estranged daughter, who is in a rehab clinic. The Killer, we learn, is Brady Hartsfield (Harry Treadaway of PENNY DREADFUL), a weird nerdy guy who works at an electronics store. He also drives an ice cream truck. Most of his problems stem from living at home with his alcoholic, sexually abusive mother (Kelly Lynch) and his dissatisfaction with his life. There's a cat-and-mouse game both ways, between Detective and Killer, which culminates in a satisfying ending that may lend itself to another season. I've never read the novel, so I can't say how good an adaptation this series is. However, it stands as an extremely riveting mini-series. Highly recommended.
