This animated feature (well, 64 minutes) continues the story from Universal's THE MUMMY and THE MUMMY RETURNS. Young Alex O'Connell and his archeologist parents are on another dig in Egypt. Alex finds this gold manacle and puts it on-and it immediately tightens so that it can't be removed. While this is happening an evil archeologist has resurrected Imhotep with the Book of the Dead.Imhotep wants the Manacle, for with it he can rule the world. Yet its powers can only be unlocked with information contained in The Scrolls of Thebes, which are hidden somewhere else in the world. Alex needs the scrolls in order to get the manacle off of his hand-and Imhotep pursues him in order to get both the scrolls and the manacle, so he's never too far behind the explorer family. They travel all over the world, via their dirigible, and end up in the catacombs in Paris, where the scrolls are hidden-and guarded by a huge minotaur. Alex manages to get the manacle off of his hand-but ends up putting it back on in order to save he and his family. The last of the mummy is seen battling the minotaur as water floods the catacombs. I found this to be a decent enough continuation of the story began in the MUMMY movies. In additon to being shown the mummy soldiers, flesh-eating scarabs and Imhotep turning into a dust tornado, there is an abundance of creatures, from the lion-headed giant birds to dragons to a giant sand worm.
