Robert Culp (SPECTRE, GREATEST AMERICAN HERO, I SPY) decides to movie he and his young wife (Samantha Eggar of CURTAINS, THE BROOD) to an old mansion he inherited from his great grandfather, who was known as 'The Major'.Once there he discovers the place is an utter mess, falling apart. He starts fixing it up and along the way the construction team discovers a hidden room which is perfectly intact. This is where his great grandfather spent most of his time.Culp starts to become more dictatorial towards his wife and the people working for him, which may be due to an influence by the spirit of his dead ancestor. Every so often the movie abruptly cuts to a flashback scene from a hundred years before. As the movie progresses events become more surreal and dream-like. Culp has an affair with a local woman hippie who lives in a shack nearby. Eventually he throws his wife out a window. The movie ends with him at her funeral, on the grounds of the old mansion, and as he walks away the picture dissolves to an almost identical shot of his great grandfather walking towards the house.A great deal isn't obviously explained in the movie and is oftentimes overly-ambiguous. Still, it's a weird, creepy movie.
