I probably shouldn't even try this one, but what the hell. I just watched a very crisp copy of this film made from a 16mm print and I had forgot how good it was. This was the trendsetter for every modern graphic zombie film and that's the fact jack. Black and white only helped it along, making it more eerie. I always liked Dawn..... better, but this movie is special. Very creepy from the look to the story to the atmosphere of paranoia. The ending was kinda fucked up though (i always felt bad for Duane Jones), but realistic. This movie showed that you can make a good movie that would stand the test of time for cheap. This movie still gives a lot of people the creeps and watching late at night in the dark alone is not fun (or is it?). A great movie worth owning and repeated viewing. You can't say that about many, can ya? Screw that colorized shit copy that people sell and rent (and show on tv). If you see one, stomp that fucker in the floor and run! This movie should stay like it is. Why was it ever remade? Though it was a good attempt, I just didn't see the need. I think this movie has about as many different copies and box covers floating around out there than any other horror movie and that should tell you something right there. This may or may not be George Romero's best film, but it's in the top 2!
