Director David Payne's followup to REEKER serves as both a prequel and a sequel, though both are fairly unnecessary. The movie all takes place at a gas station/diner that's in the middle of the desert. There's a new sheriff in town (Michael Muhney of VERONICA MARS), who is taking over the reigns from his estranged father, Sheriff Reed (Robert Pine of CHIPS). Trouble starts when a group of robbers show up, one of them shot and dying in the back of their car. But it's no coincidence they showed up here-- the leader of the gang's girlfriend is working there as a waitress and he's come to get her. There's also a doctor in the bunch (Valerie Cruz of THE DRESDEN FILES). As for The Reeker himself, he's given an origin as a serial killer who is "chosen" by death rather than being death itself. Of course, the big "surprise" that everyone is really on the verge of death and this is all happening in a sort of limbo is no surprise, as this is exactly what happened in the first movie.
