In the opening title sequence there's news footage about an orphanage being set on fire and many of the residents burning, an event that will probably have to do with events that happen later in the movie. Next, we're introduced to a group of friends in a van (of course), who are heading to Las Vegas. There's an African-American couple, a white guy with a Hispanic girlfrien, a jock with a blonde and a nerd with a camera. They come to a suspicious detour sign and take this alternate route, only to blow a few tires. So they guys start walking down the empty highway, to eventually come to a diner/gas station/motel where the employees seem extra helpful. In fact, they say they'll repair their van for free. They bring the women back there, party that night and when they wake up find themselves either handcuffed or locked in their rooms. And all the rooms are being monitored by hidden cameras. The crazy leader informs them that he and his employees are "The Helpers", helping put people out of their misery. It turns out that they were orphan survivors from that orphanage at the beginning of the film, which obviously messed them up. And they are now torturing these people simply because "they asked for help".
The special effects are great. There's an effective beheading, a woman ripped in two, tied between two cars, and some electrocutions. NO VACANCY is best described as a cross between HOSTEL and the VACANCY movies, so it puts you through the ringer.
