This is the best film adaptation of Richard Matheson's classic , with Charlton Heston (SOYLENT GREEN, PLANET OF THE APES) as the survivor of germ warfare which has killed 99% of humanity and transformed the survivors into these crazed, albino-like maniacs. Mathias (Anthony Zerbe), who used to be a television reporter, has taken it upon himself to be the new leader of these people and refers to his brethren as brothers and sisters. They all dress in robes and they want to prevent any sort of technology or ties to the old world, which they blame for its destruction. He's particularly fixated on Robert Neville.
Of course, the first half hour, like that of I AM LEGEND, is the best part of the movie, with him driving through a deserted LA and getting glimpses of "the others". Then, he comes across a woman survivor, African-American Lisa, who introduces him to yet more survivors out in the country. They are mostly kids. Heston is able to cure one of them from the plague, which has half-transformed him, and confirms that his blood can make people immune to the virus. He also comes to the same ending as he does in all the other Sci-Fi movies he's been in.
