If only all sequels could be done as well as this classic was. Damien, everyone's favorite little anti-christ, has grown into a fine young man and is now living with his wealthy aunt and uncle and their son. I love how this film works with the first. They are tied in but the fact that Damien doesn't remember his parent's deaths or anything else from his childhood really adds something to the film. Omen II is a bit faster paced than the original, it doesn't take long for things to start going wrong for this family. The deaths are creative in their own right, definitely keeping with the sense of the first film, but they don't come off quite as effective. I guess there just isn't the same sense of foreboding in this film, simply because we all know what Damien really is. But where the first film had the edge of the unknown, the second chapter of this story delivers with tension and anticipation. It is great to see everything falling apart around Damien and watching him slowl! y realize what he really is. The casting was once again superb for this film, and Damien was especially convincing. (The pop quiz with his teacher was a great touch) If you enjoyed anything about the first movie than this film is essential, it takes everything from the first to the next level. With a strong story and solid performances, Damien II turns out to be a damn good sequel by any standard, even throwing in a few twists of its own.
