The latest horror movie from writer/director Eric Red is a bit of a departure, as it's a old-fashioned ghost story that primarily takes place within the confines of a New York City Brownstone. Famke Janseen (X-MEN Trilogy) portrays Marnie Watson, who is being released to house arrest to finish out her prison term. She was convicted of killing her cop husband (Michael Pare of EDDIE AND THE CRUISERS), though it was self-defense. However, her husband's old partner (Bobby Canavale) still holds a grudge.
Unfortunately her brownstone is also where she killed her husband and the electronic tether, which keeps her on the premises, is located exactly where she did the deed, so she can never get a hundred feet away from the spot. As if this isn't bad enough, his ghost begins to haunt her in a very physical way, continuing the beatings he had given her in real life. This ghost is very physical not to mention nasty looking.
While all this is happening, Marnie starts up a fling with the local grocery delivery boy (Ed Westick of GOSSIP GIRL). What the ghost does to him is truly horrific. There's also a good twist on "The garbage disposal scene", done in a way I've never seen before, never mind that no one actually has garbage disposals in New York.
100 FEET is a well-directed take on the "Asian Ghost Story" scenario, transplanted to Brooklyn, New York, further enhanced by the solid performances by Janssen and Pare.
