A guy (Sharlto Copley of DISTRICT 9), filthy, wakes up disoriented. It's night and raining outside and eventually he realizes at the bottom of a pit and is surrounded by dozens of corpses. Someone throws him down a rope and he climbs up, yelling for help. Eventually he comes to an isolated house and confronts the group of people inside. Like him, none of them can remember who they are. They only reason they know their names is from the pile of driver's licenses on the table. There's also no phones or vehicles on the premises. However, there is a pantry filled with food and a calendar which has a big "X" on a date three days from now. What does that mean? The young mute Asian woman seems to know more than the others. Several of them venture into the surrounding woods and find corpses lashed to trees. And then they come across a cabin/shack where an old woman is kept chained. She knows the main guy on sight and freaks out. Another guy realizes he knows several languages and another can quickly load a gun. The next day they find two cars hidden under tarps and brush. Slowly, information is revealed and a few people begin having flashbacks. Are they part of some experiment? And why are the other people they encounter homicidal maniacs?
This is an interesting "End of the World" type movie, a sort-of zombie flick along the lines of 28 DAYS LATER. Very well done with an appropriately downbeat ending. Highly recommended.
