Maura Tierney is an alcoholic police detective (is there any other kind?) separated from her captain husband--and she gets involved with solving the kidnapping of a millionaire's wife. The kidnappers bury her alive with enough air for twenty-four hours--and want one million dollars in cash, otherwise they won't let anyone know where she's buried. The detective must deal with her personal demons, primarily by confronting the killer/kidnapper, who mirrors a lot of her own behavior and desires.
