I have to say, I'm one of those people that was fascinated by the first "Paranormal Activity". Whereas it had it's flaws, I thought it took the "cinema veritas" angle and went in a new direction that was at times tedious, at times exciting, but overall a nice new palette for horror filmmakers to work with.
The film saw it's share of imitators (along with some out-and-out shameless rip-offs), but none quite equalled the original.
I approached this sequel with anticipation; whereas I never thought the original was a GREAT film, I was entertained by it, and looked forward to how the creators were going to run with the notion.
This movie had some uniques twists; the inclusion of the child and the dog, and the MUCH more believable closed-circuit home security system to explain how everything was filmed...but overall, to me, it was all a lot of the same. Tying up some loose ends that were left by the first one were nice touches, and I found some of the questions the expanded story raised provacative, but sadly it was flat in the "fright" department, bringing little more to the table than re-heated leftovers.
Don't get me entirely wrong; it's not an unenjoyable watch, and it has it's moments, but other than the points mentioned above, if you've seen the first one, you've seen the best of this one.
