If there's one thing that the official Troma releases have dependably done to earn my loyal fan-ship, it's their uncompromising use of completely immature humor and raunch-gags that seem to have been aimed specifically to suit my specific taste! Nowhere else is this so accurate than in their long awaited comeback "Poultrygeist" - the first Lloyd Kaufman directed Troma flick in prior years and definitely a triumphant return. I know there is probably not a SOUL who will agree with me but "Poultrygeist" is the best Troma production since "The Toxic Avenger", in my opinion. No shortage of over-the-top gore, naked chicks, and extremely crude, gross-out humor in this one. In fact, it pushes the satirical comedy and nasty effects a lot further than in past releases, it seemed.
A fast-food, fried chicken restaurant chain is built over an Indian cemetery which is the subject of much college lesbian protest in Tromaville. One dweeby kid starts working there to spit his girlfriend who has become consumed in the girl-on-girl corporate take-down, where he meets the varied staff of odd employees like a gay Mexican, a burqa wearing Afgani, a bestiality loving antisemite, and a high-strung black supervisor. Gradually, the angry native spirits begin possessing the food stock which, in turn, transforms the customers into an army of chicken zombies...
Those like me who have a real juvenile sense of humor and can get a chuckle out of constant bathroom humor (literally TONS of 'poop' jokes in this) and a guy getting his pecker torn apart by a frozen chicken should all get a kick out of this movie. If you haven't seen it and still have qualms about it's inane comedic "brand", I'd say watch it with a bunch of buddies with a large quantity of beer. Troma fans, such as I, will no doubt find "Poultrygeist" to be perversely entertaining. The end is very reminiscent of "Dead Alive" and the song-and-dance scenes work well. Hell, it wouldn't be Troma if it wasn't a total hodge-podge of absurdity and what better way to keep it flowing than to add random musical interludes? Familiar people from past Troma movies pop up like Ron Jeremy, Joe Fleishaker (who is always a riot and always dies in outrageously messy fashions), and ol' Uncle Lloyd himself in a skirt. "Poultrygeist" should satisfy most Tromaniacs out there!
