The opening scene takes place thousands of years ago, in Australia, with an aborigine in the midst of a cave painting. He's viciously attacked and killed by something that's vaguely human. Then, through time lapse of this painting, we end up on present day, where a group of college kids are on an expedition to seek out this ancient work of art.
But weird stuff begins to happen. A vicious animal attacks--which turns out to be a mutant rabbit with predator teeth. And when one of the friends goes swimming in a nearby pond she comes out covered in leeches. They contaminate her with something that's in the water--and she begins to transform into a monster. She gets stronger--and grows vicious teeth like that Zuni Doll from TRILOGY OF TERROR. A kangaroo is ripped apart. Although this has the typical horror scenario of a group of friends going out in the woods and getting picked off one by one, there are plenty of surprises, particularly the ending, which veers off into H.P. Lovecraft territory. Recommended.
