A woman recounts her encounter with a zombie in a graveyard, a flashback in black and white, in a homage to NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. Once that's out of the way, we go to the main story, a year later, about ex-cop James Campbell. He's hired by a horror author and will be paid one million dollars to find a cure. He believes that Dr. Emily Zarkov's cancer treatment research from years ago may be responsible for the zombie contagion.
Are zombies a threat to humanity? They are much more of a nuisance. In one scene a dead guy comes up to the window of James' place and he simply pushes it away and shuts his window. In another, a frustrated reporter keeps on being interrupted by all the dead people walking around her. She has a shit fit. And there is the National Organization of Zombie Exterminators. Debbie Rochon is their spokesperson in the television commercials. The funniest thing, though, is talk show host Necro Phil, who is this zombie puppet guy.
James and Dr. Zarkov run into some other zombie hunters (producers Amy Lynn Best and Mike Watt), who have this entertaining fight scene. They all discover that the zombies are being turned into controllable killing machines via implants, which makes them much more dangerous than they already are.
If you're looking for a typical zombie movie RESURRECTION GAME is not it it. It uses the zombie scenario as a springboard, then goes off in various directions, combining film noir, action and comedy to create a unique horror film. Recommended.
